Lawrielle West is a nonprofit leader, cultural creative, and social entrepreneur who now serves as Executive Director of the African American Cultural & Historical Museum of Washtenaw County. She brings over 15 years of experience leading at the intersection of community engagement, creative enterprise, and cultural education. A proud two-time graduate of the University of Michigan, West holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Social Work, and has also studied at Oxford University.

Her museum work spans both local and international context—from the Mayibuye Archives in Cape Town, South Africa to institutions dedicated to advancing African American culture and history in Detroit. In addition to her executive leadership, West serves as Vice President of Michigan Emerging Museum Professionals and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, being inducted at the University of Michigan's Nu Chapter in Fall 2015.

As Executive Director, she is focused on expanding the museum’s reach, cultivating new partnerships, and deepening its role as a living archive and gathering space for honoring Black Washtenaw County Legacy. West is passionate about arts and culture, community, and creating spaces that affirm the many experiences of Black identity. In her free time, she enjoys thrifting, karaoke, and spending time with fellow sneaker enthusiasts.
