The African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County (AACHM) thrives because of the time, talents, and dedication of its volunteers. Our volunteer program is designed to connect community members of all backgrounds with meaningful opportunities to support the museum’s mission of preserving, sharing, and celebrating African American history and culture.
Volunteer Requirements

Must be 16 years+ (limited opportunities available for high school service projects).

Must attend a Volunteer Orientation.

Must complete at least one full assigned, volunteer shift.

Must provide consent to a background check.

Volunteer Roles + Opportunities
Programs & Education

(Committee Member)

Responsible for ideating and designing the impactful events and educational themes that bring the AACHM’s mission to life.

Docent
-
Lead tours, share the history of African Americans in Washtenaw County, and engage visitors in meaningful dialogue about our exhibits.

Educator

Facilitator:

Facilitate an AACHM-copyrighted curriculum on the topic, and we will provide the content.

Guest Facilitator:

Bring content of your own and contribute the facilitation as an in-kind donation to AACHM.

Creative Educator:

Create a unique curriculum/workshop and facilitate that the Museum will own and facilitate (Stipend available).
